An instrument will play its best if it is kept in new condition.  Each student is responsible for maintaining a clean instrument in excellent playing condition.

GETTING AN INSTRUMENT
Each band student is expected to furnish his or her own instrument. This may be arranged as follows:
1. Instruments may be obtained through rental/purchase plans at several local music stores.  A list of stores with this program is included below.
2. You may purchase a used instrument or use one that you already own.  Should you do this make sure the instrument is in good playing condition.
3. Some of the less common instruments are not offered by music stores on a rental basis.  A few of these instruments may be borrowed from the school depending on availability.
lnstruments in this category include: Bass clarinet, Tenor saxophone, French horn, Baritone horn, and Tuba.
Flutes, clarinets, trumpets, alto saxophones and trombones are considered to be student-owned instruments and are not usually supplied by the school.  The school owns many of the larger band instruments.  Mrs. Purdy issues these on a need basis.  At the time of issue, the student and parent will be asked to sign an instrument contract.  No instrument is to leave the building without a completed contract on file.  Any excessive damage, refusal to maintain equipment, or use by any other student may result in the student losing their privilege in using the school instrument.

INSTRUMENT IDENTIFICATION, STORAGE AND INSURANCE
All students are required to label their instrument cases with their name, address, and school. Luggage type tags work well.  Parents please keep a record of the instrument type, manufacturer, model, and serial number so that accurate information is available in the event of theft or fire.
Locked storage is available for instruments in the band room.  Please insist that your child keep their instrument in the band room for the entire day and bring it home at night.  We have never had an instrument stolen from the band room, but several have disappeared from other areas of the building.

SCHOOL INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER
LOSS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY
