Guidance Update:

Have High Expectations

There is always talk about how to get children to do what they are supposed to do. As long as there have been children, parents have worried about them and how they are doing. The truth is that children usually do what we expect of them. That’s one reason why having high expectations is so important. Children are more likely to do well in school and in other parts of their lives if parents expect them to. Studies have shown that children could even improve themselves when expectations were high.

What children need to hear are old-fashioned words like, "Go to school, learn, work hard, behave and be kind to others," and "I’m counting on you to do your best." Please take some time and talk to your kids about the expectations you have and the expectations they have for themselves. If you are not sure how to help your child meet those expectations, please call you school counselor. We’ll be glad to help put a plan together with you.
